Soft Liners

Experience Comfort & Stability

Soft liners are a type of material used in dentistry to provide cushioning and comfort between the hard acrylic base of a denture and the soft tissues of the mouth, particularly the gums. What does it involve?

Fitting soft liners begins with an assessment to evaluate existing dentures and oral health, determining the necessity for soft liners. If deemed suitable, impressions of the mouth are taken to create molds of the gums and oral tissues, serving as templates for fabricating the soft liners. Using these impressions, pliable silicone or material is molded and shaped to fit the tissue-facing surface of the denture base. The soft liner material is then applied to the denture base and carefully fitted to ensure proper alignment with the patient's gums and oral tissues. Any necessary adjustments are made to achieve an optimal fit and comfort, such as trimming excess material or reshaping areas to alleviate pressure points. Following fitting, the denturist evaluates the patient's comfort and function with the dentures, making additional adjustments as needed.

How does it work?

Soft liners provide a cushioning layer between the hard acrylic denture base and the soft tissues of the mouth, such as the gums. Made from pliable materials like silicone or, soft liners conform to the contours of the wearer's gums, enhancing comfort and reducing pressure points. This cushioning effect absorbs forces generated during chewing, reducing the risk of trauma to the gums and underlying tissues. Additionally, soft liners can adapt to minor changes in the mouth's shape over time, ensuring ongoing comfort and fit. By improving the fit and reducing irritation, soft liners enhance the overall experience of wearing dentures, promoting better oral health and quality of life for denture wearers.
